Writing Your Vows
Finding the Right Words
Writing your own vows can feel a little daunting, but it’s one of the most meaningful ways to express your love on the day. Not sure where to start? I’ve got you covered with tips and gentle guidance to help the words flow. We’ll talk about what to include — promises, memories, a little humour if that’s your style — and what to leave out (no pressure for a Shakespeare-worthy speech!). The key is keeping it heartfelt, real, and uniquely you. Your vows should sound like you, and I’m here to help you find the perfect way to say “I do.”
Tips for Writing Your Own Vows
1. Start Early
Give yourself time to reflect. The earlier you start, the more relaxed (and meaningful) the process will be.
2. Speak From the Heart
Forget what you think you’re supposed to say — just be real. Talk about what you love about your partner, what they mean to you, and the life you're building together.
3. Make Promises
Include a few sincere promises — they can be heartfelt (“I promise to always support your dreams”) or light-hearted (“I promise to laugh at your dad jokes”).
4. Keep It Personal
Add in a memory, a shared moment, or a little inside joke. These personal touches make your vows feel unique and genuine.
5. Keep It Concise
Aim for about 1–2 minutes. It’s enough time to say something beautiful without getting overwhelmed.
6. Write It Down
Don’t try to memorise it! Reading from a vow card is completely normal (and way less stressful).
7. Practice Out Loud
Say your vows out loud a few times. It helps with flow, confidence, and makes sure they sound natural when spoken.
8. Don’t Worry About Being “Perfect”
This isn’t a performance — it’s a promise. Speak honestly and your words will be perfect for you.
